Practice Makes Perfect
...and "perfect" makes neurotic
And in the waiting room wall of a lesson venue hangs a huge sign, "Practice Makes Perfect". And if you ask, "Then how do I practice?" and they merely throw a book or metronome at you - you should start looking for a new teacher.
Practice methods break down any material you are learning applied with patience, composure and day-to-day consistency. Perfection is just void....I'd settle for fluid, graceful, confident, expressive, poignant, imaginative or even sharp.
Perfection is for surgeons, architects and mathemeticians. And auto mechanics...yeah...like MY MECHANIC!
Otherwise there is no perfection in music save for truly being in the moment of your performance. As far as perfection goes,bollocks - just do the best you can.
